My Dearest Dad,

This year’s MS Walk is for you. I suppose all of them are in a way, but this one in particular. 33 years ago you were diagnosed. 4 years ago I too received my diagnosis, even though you never knew. I’m so grateful you never had to carry the burden of this knowledge and I want you to know – I will be okay. Please don’t be afraid and don’t let your heart be heavy. I have all the love and support of the same people who rallied behind you standing with me. You always wanted to share your story; you never knew the person who needed this most was already a part of your story. I knew the signs – we caught mine early – and there are so many advancements and treatment options available that didn’t exist at the time of your diagnosis.

I know your journey was a hard one – this disease dictated so many things in your life. I hope you know you were so much more than your MS. As your body declined, you always said one thing that could never be taken away is your memories. And our memories of you are ones we will cherish forever and always.

This year we will honour you, remember you, share stories about you, and we hope, feel the sun shining down on our faces as you walk beside us.

I love you Daddio and we will hold you in our hearts – always and forever.

For our Dad, Darcy Flett - Born 1951, Diagnosed 1992, Died 2025 - who valued life more than any other person we know. Your strength and determination was a testament to your love and inspired so many people around you.
